WHAT ARE THE ELECTRICAL SIGNS AND SIGNALS
According to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), Electrical safety signs and signals are recognizable symbols that warn of or identify potential electrical hazards associated with location or items. These include images, keywords, shapes, phrases, or statements. These are displayed on walls, boards, buildings, entrances, machines, equipment, transports, roads, or any visible area. These are stylized with bold backgrounds. They must convey practical knowledge and should serve as important reminders, helpful for untrained workers and people everywhere.

As the indications of the GHS (Hazards Communication Standards) System, there are 9 types of signals, out of which installation of 8 is compulsory in industries.
Each category has its own specific color and sign shape as per safety regulations and is applied consistently around the world.

Emergency (Green Colour)
These signs are of square or rectangular shape. Green background with white image. Displayed on emergency exits, escape routes first aid kits.

Mandatory (Blue Colour)
These are round-shaped, white, or yellow images on a blue background. Instruct wash hands, and wear a safety harness or glasses.

Warning (Yellow Colour)
Triangular-shaped signs with black edging and black images on a yellow background. These give warnings of shocks, magnetic fields, etc.

Prohibition (Red Colour)
Round shaped, having a black image on a white background with red edging and a red diagonal line. These signal instructions are like, do not touch, do not enter, have no access, no use of mobile, etc.
COMMONLY USED SIGNS AND SIGNALS
Safety Sign – A lightning bolt or bolt through a hand
Indication – Presence of High Voltage electric equipment nearby.

Safety Sign – Lightning bolt on the bottom of the shoe
Indication- Danger of explosion from static electricity.
Safety Sign – A bolt with an arrow pointed downwards
Indication – Buried Cable location.
Safety Sign – A triangle with an enclosed exclamation sign
Indication – Danger from electricity.
APPLIANCE TESTING (PAT) LABELS
PAT labels stick on electric appliances, equipment, and tools after testing give information about How safe they are to use.
- The Green label is for passed/ checked and safe to use.
- The red label warns to remove the appliance.
- The Blue label informs that a test of equipment is needed.
